Death by Chocolate Cake Recipe
Always a hit with everyone, this chocolate cake is rich and moist. You can't just eat one bite!
Ingredients
- 2 cups white granulated sugar
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup Dutch processed cocoa powder
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- 1 ½ tsp baking soda
- ¾ tsp salt
- 2 large eggs room temperature
- 1 cup buttermilk room temperature
- ½ cup oil vegetable, canola, or your choice
- 2 ½ tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup strong hot coffee or mix 1 cup hot water + 1 Tbsp instant espresso powder
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 8 inch or 9 inch cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
- With mixer on low speed, beat in eggs, buttermilk, oil and vanilla, until just combined.
- Stir in coffee (mixture will be thin).
- Divide batter evenly into prepared pans.
- Bake in preheated oven 15 minutes, then rotate pans.
- Bake 15 more minutes or until toothpick inserted in centre comes out clean.
- Cool cakes in pans on wire rack 10 minutes.
- Remove cakes from pans and cool on rack completely.
- Frost cooled cakes with your choice of frosting/buttercream. (I like to use chocolate ganache)
